Alex Ford is an accomplished entrepreneur, angel investor and executive. He has led the Praetorian Group, the leading online media company in the public safety and security market, as CEO and President since 2001. A co-founder of the company, Alex has driven the company’s growth by applying the latest online technologies to challenges first responders face on a daily basis, developing new products and aggressively expanding into adjacent markets.
Under his direction, Praetorian has launched more than 30 websites, including PoliceOne.com, FireRescue1.com, EMS1.com and CorrectionsOne.com – all either the #1 or #2 media properties in their respective markets – and brought together more than one million first responders to create the world’s largest network for public safety. He has led Praetorian to a growth rate of more than 10% per year with 8 straight years of profitability and has recently expanded the company’s footprint into the military market with the launch of Military1.com.
The Praetorian Group was recently named the U.S. Chamber of Commerce 2013 Small Business of the Year, an award for which it was a regional finalist in 2011, and has received numerous online publishing accolades, including multiple Western Publishing Association ‘Maggies’ recognizing the best media companies in the Western U.S. In addition, both FireRescue1.com and PoliceOne.com have been recognized as top 10 media sites by B@B Magazine.
Alex’s background spans all aspects of online publishing, lead generation, content marketing and social media. He is recognized as a leading thinker in monetizing online content in the B2B space. Prior to founding Praetorian, he served as a consultant and assisted multiple Fortune 100 companies in evaluating online opportunities, including GM, IBM and Harley-Davidson.
Alex currently serves on the Board of Directors for Quantum 4D and Tactical Republic and is a strong supporter of the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. He graduated from Dartmouth College with a major in Economics and French. Alex lives in San Francisco and is an active angel investor and entrepreneur with projects ranging from mobile apps to wine events.
